Fostering a love of nature and the outdoors
We work hard to minimise our impact on the local environment
Sustainability is one of our five principal values, alongside ‘being outdoors’, ‘inclusion’, ‘community’ and ‘personal development’. We strive to be a role model in sustainable living, enabling a deeper understanding of ecological issues and the threats to nature in our modern world. We aim to lead by example, as we reduce our impact on the environment for the benefit of all.
Sustainable actions at our core
Action One
Reduce our carbon footprint – we are constantly reviewing our procedures to see where we could do better. When you arrive at the centre you’ll notice straight away the solar panels covering the roof, gleaming in the sunshine. We also have a food composting system to reduce our waste, water collection, and we grow some of our own food.
Action Two
Improve biodiversity - Path Hill is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The natural environment surrounding Path Hill is one of the most important features of our centre. We work closely with the wider Hardwick Estate to support woodland management and contribute to biodiversity action plans.
Action Three
Educate for a sustainable future - Respect for our natural environment is a priority for everyone spending time at Path Hill. However, educating for sustainability needs to be so much more than acknowledging and appreciating our surroundings. We aim to help people develop the knowledge, skills and values needed to act in ways that contribute to more sustainable patterns of living.
