24 Hours at the Charcoal Kilns

Join us at our charcoal kilns for this overnight experience of an ancient practice, situated deep in our beautiful woodland. This course will last 24 hours (Saturday 10 am to Sunday 10 am). During this time you will learn how to load and light a charcoal kiln, how to manage the burn (which can last nine hours) and finally, you will bag up the lump wood charcoal and biochar ready to take home. 

In between managing the kilns, you will learn basic bushcraft skills, cook your lunch, dinner and breakfast on an open fire and finally spend the evening sitting around a fire, as the sun sets, sipping beech leaf gin (an old Chilterns favourite) with the charcoal kilns smoking in the woods and deer barking in the background. End this special and unique experience with a night in the woods either in a hammock or tent.

At the end of your time with us, you will leave with a bag of charcoal and some biochar to take home and enjoy.
